Chai Khana announces a full time, three-month fellowship
with flexible hours for early career journalists interested and
motivated to improve their skills. The fellowship will
include training and mentoring by Chai Khana staff, and invited
mentors. Selected fellows would attend regular training sessions,
have weekly assignments and mentorship meetings and would be
expected to produce a total of three articles over the course of
the fellowship.
Selected fellows will be mentored in researching, interviewing,
creating a narrative flow, and using source maps and a timeline to
organize reporting. In addition to individual mentoring sessions,
selected fellows will attend training lectures conducted by guest
speakers. Fellows will receive all necessary support to deliver
three articles, including one in-depth article, which will be
published on Chai Khana’s platforms.
The stories should cover the topic of "Haunting images.” Images
define our reality today, from the endless scroll on social media
to the eternal loop on television. What power do these pixels have
over our lives? In a world full of visual stimulation, can an image
really speak louder than words? Can a powerful visual still change
the course of history when we are flooded with images everywhere we
look? For the spring 2024 fellowship, Chai Khana is exploring how
images—or a single image—is haunting your life or the fabric of
your community, either as a driver of change or as another layer of
distortion.
Feature writer fellows will receive 300 euro per published article
(two per fellowship) as long as they have attended all lectures and
other mandatory events. Chai Khana will cover additional production
costs such as local travel and accommodation up to 200 euro.
The selected fellows should be prepared to travel locally to
complete their assignments.
